OHLA conveys its condolences to the family of Juan-Miguel Villar Mir on the death of the company’s founder.

Luis and Mauricio Amodio, president and vice-president of the company, have highlighted the great professional career of the businessman and his relevant personal and professional legacy.

OHLA has reached its current position thanks to the strategic vision and constant work of Juan-Miguel Villar Mir.

His strategic vision, international vocation, and commitment to excellence, along with the accomplishments of so many others, have forged the character and determination of the company we are proud of today.

Born in Madrid in 1931, he held a Doctorate in Civil Engineering (first in his class), a Law degree from the Complutense University (Spain), a degree from the Economic Development Institute of Washington D.C., and a degree in Business Administration from the School of Industrial Organization EOI (Spain).

Juan-Miguel dedicated his life to his family and work. After leaving the vice-presidency of the Government and the Ministry of Economy and Finance in the first government of the transition, he devoted all his effort to creating a business group with companies such as OHL -currently OHLA-, Fertiberia VM Energía, and Ferroglobe itself. He eventually employed more than 30,000 people in 35 countries.

Juan-Miguel has been a benchmark in Spain’s recent history. A tireless worker, he was able to combine his business endeavors with extensive academic and philanthropic work, always finding time for his family, the fundamental pillar of his life.
