OHL, via its subsidiary company, Judlau Contracting, Inc., has been awarded a new design-build contract valued at $149.3 million (€121.7 million) in the USA. The project, awarded by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), is part of an ambitious plan to modernize the New York City subway system and improve accessibility. Judlau will build 17 new elevators at eight stations across the five boroughs of the city. In addition, the MTA could exercise a State-of-Good-Repair Option for $3.9 million, bringing the total value of the project to $153.2 million.
Judlau will carry out the installation of 17 new elevators that will provide full accessibility at elevated and below ground stations in Brooklyn (7th Avenue, Grand Street, Metropolitan Avenue-Lorimer Street); in Queens (Beach 67th Street); in Manhattan (Dyckman Street); in the Bronx (East 149th Street) and in Staten Island (New Dorp). The MTA will also award a long-term elevator maintenance contract to a vendor that was part of Judlau’s team.
This new contract adds to significant successful station bids by the OHL Group in New York State – for example, the $65 million contract from the MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to design and build the Elmont train station, the first new full-time LIRR station in nearly 50 years. Previously, Judlau was also involved in the renovation of the 63rd Street and 72nd Street subway stations, part of New York’s new Second Avenue Subway line, the largest expansion of the subway in half a century.
