Cubipod, OHLA's innovation
for port breakwaters
Cubipod is one of the benchmark technological innovations developed by OHLA in collaboration with the University of Valencia with the aim of limiting the impact of water on mound breakwaters and to protect riverbanks.
Patented internationally, offers important advantages over the traditional cubic block, such as its great robustness and structural strength, while preventing the pieces from adopting a self-packing arrangement and increases friction with the underlying layer. In addition, its sustainable nature results in a lower concrete consumption.
After successful use in a diverse portfolio of maritime projects in Spain, Cubipod is already being used in other European countries such as Denmark and in Africa (Alger and Ghana). In addition, OHLA has a license agreement for its application in the Americas.
We invite you to take a walk through the ports where Cubipod has been exported.

Port of Las Palmas
La Esfinge Secondary Breakwater
The aim of this project was to provide the necessary protection inside the new basin of the port of Las Palmas. For the structure, with a length of 260 m, 1,846 Cubipods of 6t were used in a single layer.
Naos Secondary Breakwater
In this contract, 6t (1686 pieces) and 12t (295 pieces) Cubipods were used in a single layer for the protection of the trunk and the junction with the caisson section in a 205 m long section of the breakwater.

Langosteira I North and South Breakwaters
The improvement of the Punta Langosteira infrastructures contemplated the construction of two breakwaters: one to the north (550m) and other one to the south of the water intake (300m), in which 1,580 Cubipods of 15t and 960 Cubipods of 25t were used.
Langosteira II West Breakwater
This second phase of the project included the extension of the south breakwater to complete the secondary breakwater of the port. The 877 m infrastructure consists of 5,418 25t Cubipods and 1,772 45t Cubipods.
